As Japan is such a large country, stretching from the islands of the Sea of Okhotsk touching Russia in the far north to the China Sea by Korea to the south, it boasts a rich variety of climates and types of seasonal changes. On the island of Okinawa, the season can start as early as January while the northern regions can be as late as May.
