Day 4 - Bergen

Bergen is surrounded by seven mountains, and one of the most popular attractions of the world: the fjords. The city offers the ideal combination of nature, culture, history and exhilarating city life. What has made Bergen famous is its unique charm, which is something you have to experience for yourself. Enjoy strolling around the old streets and alleyways where people have lived for centuries. Walking through UNESCO-listed Bryggen’s narrow alleyways, made even darker and more mysterious by overhanging balconies, feels like stepping back in time. Bryggen is not a museum but part of the cultural heritage that is still in use - a living historical area of the city. The Fløibanen Funicular is a very popular attraction, running from the city centre to the top of Mount Fløyen in about 7 minutes. From the viewing platform you can admire spectacular views of the city, mountains and fjords. In addition to the wide range of hikes, you'll find a restaurant, café, souvenir shop and playground.

MS Otto Sverdrup From Hurtigruten

MS Otto Sverdrup (formerly MS Finnmarken) is named after a great Norwegian polar hero. Together with Fridtjof Nansen and three other Norwegians, Sverdrup was among the first to ski across Greenland. He was also a key member of polar expeditions and the captain of the legendary arctic ship 'Fram'. He also served as the Hurtigruten Expeditions captain on board the M/S Lofoten, which sailed from Norway to Svalbard. Sustainability is the core of every detail of your Hurtigruten Expeditions adventure. Hurtigruten Expeditions is constantly pushing boundaries and aims to become completely emissions free. Hurtigruten Expeditions is the first cruise line in the world to permanently introduce biodiesel fuel on a number of ships – including MS Otto Sverdrup. As is the case with the rest of the Hurtigruten Expeditions fleet, single-use plastics are banned on MS Otto Sverdrup. This ship is also equipped for shore power, completely eliminating emissions when docked in ports with shore power facilities. In the ship's 2020 renovation, natural Scandinavian materials like granite, oak, birch and wool were used to create a relaxed and stylish atmosphere that adds to the premium onboard experience. This ship also offers a chance to indulge yourself in our new Wellness area, complete with gym, treatment rooms and sauna, and guests can enjoy the outdoor pool and hot tubs on deck 7. To take in the magnificent scenery, outdoor observation decks are located on decks 5, 6 and 8.
