When purchasing Travel Insurance for your cruise you must declare to your insurance provider that you require cruise cover as many standard travel insurance policies do not cover this as standard
At Stewart Travel we highly recommend that our customers take out adequate Cruise travel insurance. This policy should include specialist cruise cover and cover you for the full duration of your cruise holiday.
Cruises are a great way to travel, but as with any other holiday type they do still come with some risks.
There are different types of travel insurance policies so be sure to advise your insurer that you require Cruise cover as some Insurers exclude cruises under their standard policies and won’t pay out on any claims if they are incurred whilst on a cruise holiday.
There are some Insurers which include cruises under their standard policy. This type of cover is classed as ‘standard travel insurance including cruise cover’ - so it's worth checking this with your insurer.
It is also possible to secure ‘cruise-specific’ insurance, which is similar to the above, but also includes additional cover for any events that would only ever happen on a cruise i.e. compensation if you are confined to your cabin by the ship’s doctor as a result of sickness; compensation if you miss a port that was on your itinerary due to bad weather etc.
These types of insurance policies are widely available, however, if there is a specific reason why you do not wish to take insurance some cruise lines may still allow you to travel upon signing of a disclaimer. This is strictly at the discretion of the cruise line and not available with all Cruise Lines.
